Many dog owners who are considered dangerous have doubts about how to educate them. Here’s  what you need to do to train the Doberman.

The Dobermann, from loyal guardian dog to dangerous breed

The Dobermann arrived in the United Kingdom and the American continent in the early 20th century. Originally from Germany, his reputation as a guard dog  has made him a popular breed that symbolizes wealth.

During the Second World War it became even more famous. As the faithful dog of SS officers,  the media at the time began to regard him as a demonic animal, despite his high intelligence and loyalty to his masters.

The Doberman is, by nature, very intelligent, which means that he learns everything he is taught very quickly. This has its pros and cons, because it will understand how to please you but also how to disobey orders.

This animal loves mental gymnastics, so its training will have to  be based more on an intellectual than a physical stimulus.

Despite this, the Dobermann is large in size and has a very active metabolism, q uindi will receive a combination of these two stimuli.

Educating him in a positive way to get the dog to learn is essential. The Doberman gets very attached to his owner,  and he needs you to show him that he can trust you from the first moment.

If, due to its size and bad reputation, you use extreme punishment methods, such as shouting, beating or strangling, he will start to be afraid and act accordingly.

Once the training begins, make sure he understands what “YES” and “NO” mean. In case he behaves well,  approach him, say “YES” in a loud and clear voice and reward him with a game or a snack.

In order for him to learn the meaning of this word, try to make him have fun. If he  is misbehaving, try to shift his attention to something else to stop him from doing what he is doing.

If he has already learned what “YES” means, instead of teaching him the word “NO”,  ignore his behavior and do not reward him for doing something wrong.

It will be easy for him to understand that something is wrong, and he will try to figure out how to get a prize again. If he still doesn’t improve, say “NO” loudly and clearly.

Early socialization is the secret to training any type of breed

Exposing puppies to environments that allow them to familiarize themselves with other people from the first moment is the best solution so that:

  • Don’t be afraid of strangers. This is especially important to avoid defensive reactions on the street, especially if you live in a noisy city.
  • Keep calm and quiet when you can’t pay attention to them. If they don’t get used to sitting while you are having a conversation, you will never be able to reconcile your social life with your dog’s needs.
  • They trust you and their surroundings. A puppy only feels safe in the face of what he knows. If he is always surrounded by people, it will be easier for him to trust you, your family and your acquaintances.
