How to best photograph your pet

We all love to keep beautiful memories of important moments, people and animals in our life. Would you like to learn how to take beautiful pictures of your four-legged friend? Here are some little tips that will allow you to improve the quality of your shots.

It is not always an easy task, animals move a lot and what about red eyes: they make it look like our dog is straight out of a vampire movie. So, write down the following tips!

Put yourself at his height

If you don’t want your dog in the photo to look like a Hobbit or a caricature, or to look uncomfortable, try crouching down to his height to photograph  . You can even lie down on the ground; this position will ensure that your shot acquires a better perspective and will also allow you to portray your pet at the same height as he sees the world.

Take advantage of natural light

If you want to get a nice shot, try to use a natural light source, the sun.

Everyone will have happened to take a near-perfect photo of your pet, almost, because his eyes appear red and fearful. This is due to the use of the flash, which in addition to scaring the animal prevents you from getting an ideal photo. If, on the other hand, you decide to photograph your little friend when it is already dark, try placing an artificial light source, such as a white light lamp, near him.

Try to photograph his character

One of the ways to get a photo worthy of the National Geographic is to be able to express with photography the personality of the animal, its true nature.

If your pet loves playing with the ball, try to photograph the animal at that moment; it is the personality that gives that extra touch to the image and makes it wonderful.

Take burst photographs

If you have a professional, semi-professional or simply equipped camera with this device, take advantage of it: it is ideal for photographing a pet.

The animals move continuously and the burst shooting function allows you to get many images in seconds. Thus, in addition to the feeling of movement, you will have much more opportunities to get at least a nice photo.

Take into account its timetables and its particularities

Nobody knows your pet better than you – take advantage of this to get the best photos. For example, if you know that your dog is going crazy with joy at a certain time because your child comes home from school, get your camera ready.

Try to immortalize the things your little friend likes in order to keep them, be it a gesture or another peculiarity. These are the details that make it truly special and that you will love going to see it again, even when it is gone.

Use the toys

Sometimes, getting a cat or dog’s attention seems like a mission impossible; try using a feather, a string or a sound toy. They are used to get the attention of the animal and to take the photo more easily; don’t be naughty, though: once you get what you want from him, don’t leave him speechless, but reward him with a good game session.

Respect the animal

The most interesting photo is not the one in which the animal is in a dangerous situation, it is in an awkward or uncomfortable position. Respect its times and its spaces, it will allow you, in general, to have a better relationship with your pet.

Sometimes, to get a funny shot, we put our four-legged friends in situations that are not optimal and they are not used to, such as dressing them in a funny way, putting annoying or heavy objects on them and the like.

How would we feel in their place? If the answer is, uncomfortable, let’s not let this happen to our best friends.
