A dog that is comfortable is a dog that changes position while resting. If your dog stays in the same position for too long, he is probably uncomfortable.
If possible, provide your dog with at least two different areas where he can rest. In this way, he can change his sleeping position whenever he wants.
Your dog’s preference for carpet or pillow can vary throughout the year and is related to temperature. In the winter months, many dogs love to curl up. This behavior occurs because it is trying to minimize contact with the floor and maintain body heat.
On the contrary, in the warm months the dog stretches as much as possible. During this period, animals prefer to stay in the shade and on rather cold surfaces to reduce body heat a little. For this reason, your dog will probably prefer to use the carpet during the summer, while in the winter they prefer cushions.
Keep in mind that a resting area, whether it be a rug or a cushion, should allow your dog to fully stretch. If he doesn’t have enough room to stretch, he can start suffering from health problems, such as scoliosis and back pain, but also muscle compression.
Whether it’s a rug or a cushion, your dog will always need a kennel that is his. Don’t make the mistake of sleeping with your dog – it will be uncomfortable for both of you.
