1. Maine Coon

With a weight of 11 kilos and a length of 70 cm (adult male), this feline was born from the cross between the domestic and wild cat of the United States and is very famous.

He manages to meow in different shades. Its most frequent coat is brown and brindle white,  but it can also be black, gray or red.

2. Savannah

It is another of the largest cats in existence and is famous for its fur, similar to that of a leopard. The breed derives from the crossing between a domestic cat and a wild one, of the Serval breed, native to Africa.

Although the Savannah can weigh around 11 pounds, its appearance looks much leaner due to the shape of its body. In addition, it has large legs and a long tail. One of the curiosities of this breed is its very docile and affectionate character.

3. Ragdoll

Not only is it so beautiful it looks like a stuffed animal: this cat is also the largest in the world.

An adult male can weigh up to nine pounds and be 90 centimeters long. Females do not exceed seven kilos and 60 centimeters.

The Ragdoll – which means ‘rag doll’ in English –  comes from a cross between various races, including the Siamese, the Persian and the Burmese. 

It is a very calm, docile and intelligent cat. Its coat is often white and abundant and when held in your arms it relaxes so much that it looks ‘dazed’, which is why its name.

4. Turkish van

It is an infrequent breed outside its area of ​​origin, Lake Van, in Turkey (from which it takes its name).

Its fur is what characterizes it: it has several layers, to withstand the cold of the mountains from which it originates. Due to its thickness it is quite soft, like that of a rabbit.

5. Norwegian Forest Cat

His name is curious and he is one of the largest cats there are. Males come in at nine kilos in weight.  It is very hairy, so much so that it appears even larger in size. Its coat can have varying colors, but there is always a little white.

The Norwegian Forest Cat is native to Scandinavia and has become a very common pet throughout Europe.

He tends to be active and loves to be outdoors – loves climbing trees.
