What Does A Pet Need?

What does a pet need?

Before buying a pet you should think about your real chances of coping with the attention it needs. A pet is a living being and, as such, has physical, emotional and mental needs. These needs vary according to the type of pet you choose to adopt, as each of them has different needs. But regardless, they all have basic needs in common.

Responsibility

Certainly it cannot be said that a pet is a companion for life (unless it is a parrot) but surely you must bear in mind that you will be living together for a few years. So, if you decide to buy or adopt a pet, you will have to ask yourself a few questions: Will I be able to take care of it? If I were to go on a trip, where could I leave my friend? And who could I entrust it to?

Furthermore, you must be willing to accept the responsibility of providing for all its needs : a pet needs not only food and water, but also love, attention, care, time and energy, especially if it is of an animal that must be taken for a walk. If you decide to adopt a pet, you must accept all this, as it is your decision and, therefore, you must act accordingly and take responsibility for your actions.

Time

If you are considering adopting a pet, you will first need to consider how much time you have available to take care of it each day. A dog, for example, must be taken for a walk at least three times a day, so that it can run, socialize with other dogs, play. Furthermore, he cannot be alone in the house for very long. If you spend a lot of time away from home for work, or if you come home exhausted and don’t want to do anything, not even walk your dog, it’s probably best for you not to adopt a dog and choose another pet.

A cat, for example, will not need to be taken for a walk, but it still needs attention, even if it stays alone in the house for three days: it still needs to eat and drink and, therefore, your presence. also to play with you, to be pampered and brushed.

If you don’t have much time or desire to walk an animal or pet an animal several times a day, it’s best not to choose a dog or a cat. There are other pets that don’t need a lot of attention and care. For example fish, turtles, rabbits, hamsters, etc. However, even if they don’t need you to spend much of your time with them, you will still need to give them some time to feed them, wash and clean the cage, brush their fur, etc.

Habitat

Every pet needs to live in a comfortable and dignified place, such as a cage, doghouse, aquarium, etc. This involves costs that you will have to be willing to bear when you decide to adopt a pet.

In many cases it will be necessary to buy feeders or bowls, in which they can eat at will, and toys with which to spend time and have fun. For example, cats will need something to scratch, dogs will need something to bite, and hamsters will need a wheel to run on.

Medical care

All pets, from their birth, need to be examined by a veterinarian who will administer all the necessary vaccines to them. Therefore, you should be willing to pay the vet’s expenses in case your pet gets sick.

If it is a puppy, it will be necessary to take it to the vet so that the microchip can be applied to it and to request the vaccination calendar, to identify the ages of administration of the various vaccinations.

Education

When you decide to adopt a pet, you will need to be willing to use your time and energy to teach them some basic rules of behavior, such as where to eat, where to go to the toilet or respond to your call. Each of you is free to teach your pet other rules as well, such as: do not get on the sofa, sit down or do not enter a room.

As you can see, having a pet comes with a lot of responsibilities, and we’re sure you are aware of this. So, before you decide to adopt a pet, think about all that involves having one, and then decide. Do not follow exclusively your desire to have an animal at home, remember that they are not stuffed puppets, but living beings that depend on you.
