Would you try to make your dog's clothes?

With the change of season it is common for parents to buy their children new clothes for the change of temperature, and as they do for them, they will also buy them for their dog. Nowadays there are many families who decide to change their pet’s wardrobe, even if one of the inconveniences they will face is the price of the clothing.

This is the reason why we at My Animals want to offer you some ideas for making your dog’s clothes ; in this way he will be well covered, and all the members of the family can have fun making clothes for him.

Before packing your dog’s clothes

It is not uncommon to see small dogs walking around wearing cute clothes, as they are the dogs that suffer the most from the cold; this does not mean that a dog can be dressed even if it is large. You can create both winter and summer clothes, in this case using lighter fabrics.

Before starting you have to take into account some things such as the measurements, the materials you will use etc. You can use clothes that you have at home and that no one wears anymore such as sweatshirts, shirts, socks … anything you can think of can come in handy.

Measures

It is very important to be aware of your dog’s measurements. With a tape measure, measure from the head to the tail : this will be the length of the pattern. The second measurement will go from the center of the spine down, along the side of the dog that reaches the lower abdomen. This measurement will be multiplied by two, since it represents the width of the model.

The next measurement must be taken across the lower abdomen. This is a very important measurement as it will be the point where we will put the elastic or an adhesive band to make the dress fit her body.

Now you will need a pattern on which to trace the measurements of your dog with the help of a ruler. Depending on the size of your dog, you will need to divide the paper into two or three parts, leaving about 1.5 cm around each division, which will be used for the hem.

Once you have cut out each part of the model, all you have to do is adjust it to the canvas you have decided to use. Here is the base of the dress with the measurements of your dog ready and, starting from now, all you have to do is give free rein to the imagination and add all the decorations you want  such as ruffles, straws, etc.

Dress made from a sweatshirt

The most common clothes that you have at home are usually sweatshirts, a material that we can use to keep our dog warm. To make a dress, follow the instructions below.

If you are determined to make the pattern you can do it, but if you don’t feel like it,  you can simply adjust your old suit to your dog’s body.

If you want to create a sweatshirt with the measurements of your dog, just calculate the diameter of the neck and belly, then draw two circles with a glass that will be used to bring out the front paws. If you want, you can then cover these holes with the sleeves of a wool sweater, to make the garment even warmer.

A raincoat for your dog

How many times have you had to go out with the dog in the rain to make him do his business, and when you return you will find him soaked? Well, now we are going to teach you how to make a raincoat for your dog.

You can use a garbage bag made of sturdy plastic or an old raincoat that is no longer used as the material.

Cut out the plastic so that the measurement covers the entire body of the dog, and open the holes for the paws. In the final part, a triangular shape will be cut out for the tail. If you have a belt you can use it to adjust the raincoat to his little body; you can also use velcro or fabric adhesive tape.

A tutu for your dog

Below we teach you how to make a cute tutu for your dog.

Place some tulle on a table and cut strips of about 15 cm each, always according to the size of your dog. Pass an elastic around the dog to know where to cut it and sew the ends. Once this is done, you will need to tie the tulle strips to the elastic, repeating this process until it goes all the way around her body.
